The official launch of the partnership between International Cancer Institute (ICI) and the Ministry of Health, Rwanda.

Friday September 10th 2021 at Marriott Hotel, Rwanda NCD Alliance was part of International Cancer Institute (ICI) – Rwanda Blueprint for Innovative Healthcare Access Programme stakeholder's meeting. The meeting was held to discuss the joint roll out, timelines and outcome measures of this programme in Rwanda for activities selected by the government of Rwanda. This marked the official physical launch of International Cancer Institute (ICI)_Ministry of Health-Rwanda partnership through a Memory of Understanding signed by both parties.

The primary goal of International Cancer Institute (ICI)-BluePrint is to expand education and training opportunities in cancer care, research, training, and advocacy across SSA through multi-sectoral collaborations and partnerships with relevant governmental and Non-governmental organizations. 

The Guest of Honor during the launch, Hon. Dr. Patrick Ndimubanzi (Human Resources for Health Executive Secretary), lauded efforts and dedication of the International Cancer Institute team and implementing partners for this one of a kind pioneering integrated program that will not only enhance cancer care and control services in Rwanda but be a leading example for sub-Saharan Africa.

The co-implementing partners present during the launch included the Rwanda Ministry of Health (MOH), Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC), Rwanda Human Resources for Health (HRH), Partners in Health/Inshuti Mu Buzima (PHI), University of Rwanda (UR), University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK), University Teaching Hospital of Butare (CHUB), King Faisal Hospital (KFH), Rwanda Cancer Relief (RCR), Breast Cancer Initiative East Africa (BCIEA), African Center for Research on End of Life Care (ACREOL) & Hospice St Jean Paul II, Vine Pharmacy, Pharmacie Continentale, Rwanda Non-Communicable Diseases Alliance (RNCDA) and Rwanda Social Security Board (RSSB). Also present was @Roche and the ICI team of Dr. Christian Ntizimira (Program Manager, ICI-BluePrint Rwanda), Edwin Odoyo (Program Manager, ICI-BluePrint Kenya), Dennis Munene (Coordinator, ICI-BluePrint Kenya) and Pamela Were (ICI Chief Outreach Coordinator).

We are looking forward to a great program that will have a significant impact on the people of Rwanda as we collaborate with the Rwanda Ministry of Health to increase sustainable access to cancer care and control for Rwandan communities through health system strengthening.
